Loss-making telecom operator Vodafone Idea on Monday said it has made an additional payment of Rs 3,354 crore towards adjusted gross revenue (AGR) to the DoT, thereby completing the payment of the principal amount calculated on the basis of its self-assessment.
With this fresh payment, Vodafone Idea has paid Rs 6,854 crore towards AGR dues. The DoT has raised a total demand of around Rs 53,000 core as Vodafone’s AGR liability.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has dismissed Vodafone Idea’s plea against the levy of one-time spectrum charge for the radiowaves it held beyond 6.2MHz.
Bank exposure
The exposure of banks to the telecom sector is around Rs 1,30,960 crore and the SBI alone has exposure of Rs 67,811 crore, the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has informed the DoT.
The SBI has NPAs of around Rs 12,165 crore in the telecom sector from Aircel, Reliance Communications and Videocon Telecommuncations among others.
