Vodafone Idea on Tuesday said that it is planning to add around 1,000 new sites in the two circles (Calcutta and Rest of Bengal) by March at a time it is looking at a gradual 5G rollout across the country.
The telecom major has 4,175 sites in Calcutta and 8,371 sites in Rest of Bengal circles. The company said that it has added new layers of 900 MHz spectrum in over 6,800 sites for better indoor coverage.
"We are looking to build the network coverage and are concentrating on building the 4G coverage now with 5G plans in the pipeline. We are also looking at ARPU (average revenue per user) improvement and it is also very important to look at how to hold onto our customers from hereon," said Naveen Singhvi, business head, Bengal, Assam and North East, Vodafone Idea.
After almost four years, the telco is expanding in Calcutta by opening nine more company owned stores to add to its 36 company owned stores.
