A three-year-old British EV start-up, One Moto, has signed an MoU with the Telangana government to set up a manufacturing facility in the state. The start-up launched its products in India in November last year, which includes three e-scooters that are designed and developed in the UK.
A British brand with headquarters in Dubai, it has markets in the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Egypt, and Cuba. It is also present in China where it has a plant. The new facility, spread across 15 acres, will be located on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Hyderabad seems to be the key market for EVs, with the state government accelerating the EV revolution with supporting policies for production and strong infrastructure. The brand plans to invest up to Rs 250 crore in the unit.
“We aim to manufacture at least 40,000 units in the first phase of the plant launch, and capacity will be taken up to 100,000 in two years,” said Sameer Moidin, co-founder and partner, One Moto India.
One Moto recently launched its new e-Scooter Electa at the EV India expo in Greater Noida. The brand has already brought three e-Scooters for Indian customers- Byka, Electa, and Commuta. The scooters have a range of 180km with a 5 kmph speed.
“With the new manufacturing plant, we not only cater to the Indian market but also export vehicles to other global markets which One Moto is developing. There is tremendous opportunity to create jobs in the state of Telangana not just at the manufacturing facility, but also in rural areas. We will be also setting up skill development programs with the state since EV after-sales service requires a specialised skillset. The plant will create almost 500 direct and 2000 indirect jobs in the state,” said Shubhankar Chaudhry, CEO, One Moto India.
The manufacturing plant will produce all One-Moto fleet in addition to two Indian fleets that are to be introduced by Ellysium Automotives, currently promoting One Moto in India.
