Triumph Motorcycles India is in the second spot among premium motorcycle companies in FY2022 with sales of 1200 units, according to the Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Kawasaki is the top seller (1600 units) in this segment that is defined by engine sizes upwards of 500cc and with multicylinders and a sticker price northwards of Rs 5 lakh.
While these two manufacturers seem to fight it out closely, the others in the race are Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India with sales of 200 units, Suzuki Motorcycles (250 units), BMW Motorrad (500 units), Harley Davidson (473 units) and Ducati (300 units). Not all OEMs declare their sales to SIAM.
“The premium segment market in motorcycles stands at 5000 units per annum and accordingly we have a market share of 22 per cent,” said Shoeb Farooq, business head, Triumph Motorcycles India, at the launch of a Triumph dealership in the city.
An iconic British brand, Triumph was launched in India in 2013 and is in its ninth year of operations with 14 dealerships across the country. Triumph has 22 products in its portfolio starting from the Trident 660cc at Rs 7.5 lakh and going up to the Rocket that sells for Rs 22 lakh.
