The wait is finally over for Tata Neu.

The $103-billion Tata group is likely to launch the much awaited super-app on April 7, pitching it directly against Amazon, Walmart and the Reliance group’s Jio Platforms.

The launch date was revealed by Tata Digital, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, on Google Play Store.

“Shop, dine, travel, pay bills, earn rewards. Coming to your phones on April 7,’’ its message read.

The app is now available with group employees, their family and friends.

Tata Neu has been in the works for quite some time now. It has been facing multiple delays as the group looked to integrate other well-known brands into the platform.

The launch was scheduled in early 2021 but reportedly got pushed to the second half of 2021 as technical issues surfaced on the integration of some of the other brands.

It is believed that when launched, the platform will provide consumers access to online grocer BigBasket, electronics retailer Croma and e-pharmacy 1mg.

The online platform will also feature fashion and lifestyle brand Westside and Tata CLiQ, which sells products ranging from fashion and footwear to watches and jewellery.

Sources said users can buy flight tickets of group airlines Vistara and Air Asia. Its other well known joint venture Starbucks is likely to be part of the super-app. Besides, users can book hotels at various Taj group properties.

The platform will offer “NeuCoins’’ — a loyalty point on every purchase. According to the app, which has more than 1,00,000 downloads, users can pay their electricity, mobile, DTH, broadband bills and recharges. They can even send money to friends or family members, using “Tata Pay UPI”, which may be launched with Tata Neu.

“Find everything, from groceries to gadgets, to getaways on Tata Neu. Pay instantly for any of your online and in-store purchases, utility bills and more using Tata Pay.”

“Consume cutting-edge digital content, make payments, manage your finances, plan your next holiday or perhaps just your next meal – there’s lots to explore and experience in the world of Tata Neu,’’ says the app.

The app is likely to take on Reliance Industries’ JioMart which started with groceries and moved on to mobiles and tablets to air conditioners and home appliances — an indication of Mukesh Ambani’s plans to make JioMart into a single platform that offers various products and services.

Ambani’s Reliance Retail is the country’s largest retailer. It has taken possession of 850 Future group stores as the embattled retailer which is engaged in a legal battle with Amazon was unable to pay any rent. The Supreme Court is hearing an appeal from the US giant seeking to restrain the Kishore Biyani-led group from alienating its stores.
