Tarun Bajaj, incumbent revenue secretary, will take up the additional charge of corporate secretary.
“The competent authority has approved the assignment of the additional charge of the post of secretary, ministry of corporate affairs to Tarun Bajaj with immediate effect and till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” said an order issued by the department of personnel & training.
The move follows the erstwhile MCA secretary Rajesh Verma, a Odisha cadre IAS officer, being appointed as secretary to President Droupadi Murmu last week.
Bajaj, who is a 1988 batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, has been the revenue secretary since April 2021. He has over 33 years of experience in administration, management and public policy.
Bajaj will assume the additional charge at a time several legislative changes are in the works at the MCA, including firming up of amendments to the Companies Act and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
Recently, the government had introduced a Competition (amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha which includes a broader framework with respect to anti-competitive practices as well as mergers and acquisitions.
This bill is now before the standing committee on finance headed by Jayant Sinha and this panel has been given three months to submit its report.
