Taiwanese companies are eyeing investments in several sectors, including textiles and footwear.

The foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow from Taiwan to India from April 2020-June 2022 stood at nearly $756million. So far several Taiwanese companies have set up business operations in India in areas such as information and communication technology, automobile components, electronics, engineering and medical devices.

Speaking at the sidelines of the three-day sixth edition of the Taiwan Expo India that commenced on Wednesday here, Estela Chen, executive director of the economic division, Taipei Economic & Culture Center-India, said Taiwanese firms that have manufacturing bases in China are looking to diversify their operations to countries such as India apart from Vietnam and Malaysia.

She hinted that the focus of many of these companies are on smart lifestyle and smart manufacturing. There is a lot of investment possibilities that can arise in the days ahead.

Apart from investing, the attempt will also be to build a supply chain cluster along with their Indian partners, she added.

Themed around the concept of ‘Together towards tomorrow’, the expo featured more than two dozen Taiwanese brands showcasing more than 52 products. They covered Taiwanese brands under smart manufacturing, ICT, smart city, transportation, healthcare, lifestyle, beauty and skincare and smart agriculture.
