Srijan Realty may look at developing wholesale haat (trading centre) at Howrah and Metiabruz if the ongoing project at Ankurhaati near Domjur meets with success.
Srijan has built the first phase of the trading centre over 2 lakh square foot and it plans to start the construction of the second phase comprising 5 lakh square foot early next year.
The Srijan Global Haat is targeted at ostagars (craftsmen) living in and around the area, who buy clothes to make garments for the wholesale market, catering to Bengal and the entire eastern India.
Srijan is offering wholesale space, small and large, on an open tenancy model for consideration of an upfront payment (salaami) and monthly nominal rent which will be used for upkeep and maintenance.
R.N. Agarwal, director of Srijan Realty, claimed it has been able to lease out 90 per cent of the space already at the haat which was formally inaugurated on Wednesday. “If the model works, we plan to build such haats in Howrah and Metiabruz going forward,” he said.
