SpiceJet expresses interest in acquiring bankrupt Go First

No-frills carrier SpiceJet has expressed interest in the acquisition of Go First which has been grounded since May 3 this year.

“SpiceJet Ltd has expressed interest with the Resolution Professional of Go First and wish to submit an offer post diligence, with a view to creating a strong and viable airline in a possible combination with SpiceJet’’, the company said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.

Its announcement was received positively by investors with the SpiceJet scrip gaining 2.91 per cent to close at Rs 66.08 in the BSE. Apart from SpiceJet, SkyOne a Sharjah-based aviation firm, has also expressed interest in a communication sent to the resolution professional of Go First, Shailendra Ajmera.

The lenders to Go First will be meeting over the next few days to take a call on the fresh interest seen. It comes at a time Go First was staring at liquidation as the last date for submission of bids for acquiring the airline was November 22.
