Reliance Industries (RIL) plans to launch JioFiber, its fixed-line broadband service, from September 5.

The optical fibre-based high-speed internet will come at prices that are a tenth of global rates and will also pack in other attractions such as a free television set and subscriptions to leading premium over-the-top applications.

JioFiber will offer free voice calls for life from landlines, 100 mbps minimum broadband speed at subscription starting from Rs 700 a month. It will also come bundled with a free HD television set & set-top-box if the subscriber takes an annual plan, chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani told shareholders on Monday.

JioFiber’s plans will be priced at Rs 700-10,000 per month “to suit every budget”, and the basic plans will begin at 100 Mbps and go all the way up to 1 Gbps, he added.

Under a premium plan, customers will be able to watch movies at home on the day of their release in theatres.

The commercial services of Reliance Jio had commenced on September 5, 2016 and its proposition of free voice calls coupled with cheap data tariffs created a huge disruption in the domestic telecom space.

RIL has also done well in organised retail. It is now looking to list both these consumer facing businesses over the next five years.

Repeat act

Ambani, who wanted to repeat his telecom success in optical fiber-based fixed broadband services had last year announced the service called JioFiber and the company had invited registrations of interest from customers.

On Monday, Ambani said the company had received over 15 million registrations from nearly 1,600 towns.

Based on the registrations, Reliance had drawn up a plan to reach 20 million residences and 15 million business establishments in these 1,600 towns.
