The sale of electric vehicles (EV) in India is set to touch half a lakh units by the end of this financial year, according to Chinese EV conglomerate BYD.
EV adoption in the country increased from 0.4 per cent to1.8 per cent this year.
In FY 2021-22, 22,000 EVs were sold in India. In this financial year, from April to September, 24,000 EVs have been sold, said Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, senior vice-president of electric passenger vehicles of BYD India in an interview with The Telegraph.
“The FY2022-23 will probably close with a sale of 50,000units, selling at the rate of 4,000 units per month.”
According to the Vahandashboard, EV sales —comprising two-wheelers,three-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles —have touched 5,15,949 units inFY22-23. Electric motor car registrations touched 17,064units in FY22-23 to date, according to Vahan. At least 17,186 electric motor cars were registered in FY 2021-22.
