Reliance Retail Ltd on Wednesday said it has entered into a long-term partnership with Gap Inc to bring the iconic American fashion brand to India.
The company will become the official retailer for Gap across all channels in India — a mix of exclusive brand stores, multi-brand stores and digital commerce platforms, a statement added.
“At Reliance Retail, we pride ourselves in bringing the latest and best to our customers and we are happy to announce the addition of iconic American brand Gap to our fashion and lifestyle portfolio. We believe that Reliance and Gap complement each other in their vision to bring industry-leading fashion products and retail experiences to their consumers,” Akhilesh Prasad, CEO, Fashion & Lifestyle, Reliance Retail Ltd, said.
Founded in 1969, Gap focuses on denim and sells its products online and through company-run and franchise retail locations globally.
Earlier, Gap had a tie-up with Arvind Fashions. The franchise business relationship forged in 2014 was terminated in 2020 as the pandemic and the ensuing national lockdown hit the business severely.
“We look forward to growing the Gap business across key international markets,” Adrienne Gernand, managing director of international, global licensing and wholesale at Gap Inc, said. Gernand added that partnering regional experts such as Reliance Retail in India would allow it to deliver relevant, purpose-driven brands to customers around the globe, while continuing to diversify its business portfolio through the partner-based model.
