Veteran industrialist Ratan N Tata on Monday said there was no cause for concern regarding his health and that he was undergoing check-ups for age-related medical conditions.
The statement from the Tata Sons chairman emeritus came after reports claimed that he was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital in the early hours of Monday following a drop in blood pressure.
Terming them as “rumours’’, Tata said in a post on social media platform X that “these claims are unfounded”.
“I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age related medical conditions... There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits and request that the public and media refrain from spreading misinformation’’.
Tata took over as chairman of Tata Sons in March 1991 and retired on December 28, 2012.
During his tenure, the Tata group made several key acquisitions that included Tetley, Corus, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) among others.
After his retirement, Tata faced boardroom battle with his successor Cyrus Mistry, who was sacked as chairman of Tata Sons on October 24, 2016. He returned as interim chairman after Mistry was removed and handed over the reins of the group to N. Chandrasekaran in January 2017 and moved to his role of chairman emeritus of Tata Sons.
JLR sales
Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover on Monday reported a 3 per cent decline in retail sales at 1,03,108 units in the second quarter of the current fiscal as compared to the year-ago period.
Retail sales for the first six months of the financial year were at 2,14,288 units, up 3 per cent year-on-year.
Production in Q2 FY25 was restricted to 86,000 units, down 7 per cent from 93,000 units in the year-ago period as a result of aluminium supply disruptions reported in Q1 FY25.
