Passenger vehicle sales touch all-time high in September at 3.63 lakh units posting a growth of 2.4 per cent

Analysts attributed strong show to festival season demand, with Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami and Onam celebrated in September

Passenger vehicle sales touched an all-time high in September at 3.63 lakh units posting a growth of 2.4 per cent over sales of 3.55 lakh units a year ago.

Sales last month were up sequentially from 3.60 lakh units in August.

Analysts attributed the strong show to festival season demand, with Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami and Onam celebrated in September.

The industry also posted the highest Q2 sales crossing the one million mark at 10.76 lakh units a growth of nearly 5 per cent over Q2 sales of 10.26 lakh units a year ago.

Retail sales in September 2023 stood at 3.42 lakh units posting a muted growth of 1.1 per cent over sales of 3.38 lakh units a year ago.

As a result, stock has gone up to 3,31,162 units crossing the 30-day stock in the sales channels.

Maruti Suzuki reported sales of 1.50 lakh units, a growth of 1.6 per cent over sales of 1.48 lakh units a year ago.

Retail figures for the company were 1.40 lakh units posting a growth of five per cent over 1.33 lakh units.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. registered its highest ever sales of 71,641 units in September 2023 — domestic sales of 54,241 units and export of 17,400 units. The company posted 9 per cent year-on-year growth in domestic sales.

Tata Motors sold 45,317 units in September, down 5 per cent from sales of 47,864 units a year ago.

Quarterly sales also fell marginally to 2,43,024 vehicles from 2,43,387 units in the second quarter of the last fiscal.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said it sold 75,604 vehicles in September, including exports, a growth of 17 per cent.

The company sold 41,267 vehicles in the domestic market, and overall, 42,260 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 23,997 units.

MG Motor India sold 5,003 units in September 2023.

The British automobile brand with a 100-year legacy, witnessed a growth of 31 per cent over the figures for September 2022.

Sales of EVs continue to contribute around 25 per cent of the total sales of the company.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday said its total wholesales increased 53 per cent year-on-year to 23,590 units in September, its highest-ever in a month.

The automaker had dispatched 15,378 units to dealers in the same month last year.

Maruti said in September, the sales of its entry-level cars — Alto and S-Presso — stood at 10,351 units, down 65 per cent from 29,574 units in the year-ago period.

Sales of compact cars also declined to 68,552 units last month from 72,176 units in September 2022.

Utility vehicle dispatches jumped 82 per cent to 59,271 units last month from 32,574 units in September last year.
