Imagine a two-wheeler rider having basic navigation aid on his helmet visor and direction guidance in the ear.
While this may not be as futuristic as Tony Stark’s (Iron Man) heads up display, some elements of the concept are not far from reality.
MapmyIndia (CE Info Systems Ltd) is jointly developing an IoT based navigation solution for two-wheeler riders with Pupilmesh. It has picked up a 9.99 per cent stake in the start-up for a consideration of Rs 49.95 lakh.
“With Pupilmesh we are working on a few different products. They are an advanced deep tech company and the first product that we are working on is Navisor.
“It’s a device that can augment the field of view through the visor with soft LED lights below the eyes which tells when to turn left or when to turn right. The IoT (internet of things) module that goes into the helmet will connect with MapmyIndia’s consumer app,” said Rohan Verma, CEO and executive director of MapmyIndia, adding that the device can integrate into any helmet and can be eventually developed to give speedbreaker and pothole warnings in future.
“We hope and expect in the next few months to release this product in the market,” Verma said. While there will be an upfront cost for customers for the device, the revenue stream is expected from recurring charges.
Verma further said that the augmented reality headset is another area where joint development is being planned in future.
MapmyIndia on Friday also announced an investment in a Delhi based IoT and logistics firm Gtropy where the former picked up a 75.98 per cent stake through a combination of preferential allotment and secondary purchase from shareholders of Gtropy for an aggregate consideration of Rs 13.5 crore. The company provides GPS based fleet management solutions.
“This will help us expand our IoT and SaaS (software as a service) solutions into the commercial vehicle fleet and OE market,” said Verma adding GPS based digitisation of transport services could play a crucial role in PM Gati Shakti plan.
