Electric vehicle sales in two-wheelers and passenger vehicle categories dropped off in May, while sales picked up in the three-wheeler and commercial vehicles category, according to official data.
Passenger electric vehicle retails in May recorded a fall of over 1 per cent year-on-year with total sales standing at 7,638 units compared with 7,734 units in May last year, according to Vahan data.
Month-on-month sales were up 3 per cent as April accounted for 7,415 units.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle led the pack with sales of 5,083 units in May down by 15.5 per cent over May 2023 sales of 6,018 units.
MG Motor India sold 1,441 compared with 464 units a year ago.
Electric two-wheeler sales, on the other hand, was down 27 per cent year-on-year with sales of 76,907 units in May compared with 1.05 lakh units a year ago.
Ola grew 29.5 per cent with sales of 37,225 units last month compared with 28,742 units in May last year.
TVS followed with 11,788 units, which is 42 per cent down from 20,434 units last year.
Bajaj sales fell 8.75 per cent to 9,214 units in May this year compared with 10,097 units in May last year.
Electric three-wheeler sales continue to grow with a 22.6 per cent YoY increase. In May this year, the segment sold 54,729 units compared with 44,641 units a year ago.
