Mercedes Benz India Limited (MBIL) has launched the SL 55 AMG Roadster in Mumbai last week.

The Roadster will run on an internal combustion engine, probably the last one as Mercedes switches to electric vehicles.

The next SLs should be an electric vehicle, said MBIL managing director and CEO Santosh Iyer. This has led to a rush to snap up the last ICE SL which will soon turn into a heritage vehicle with a high resale value.

Mercedes will launch only electric vehicles in 2025.

MBIL received 30-odd bookings before the launch of the Mercedes AMG SL 55 Roadster priced at Rs 2.35 crore.

“We received the bookings for this SL even before we announced its launch. They possibly want to pick up this new SL because they feel these will be the last generation combustion engines,” said Iyer speaking to The Telegraph exclusively before the launch.

The company has received fresh allocations from Germany for cars such as G-Wagon for which the waiting period was 24 months.

“Many hardcore G loyalists wanted the car. The AMG version which is the G63 was not available but we were able to procure G400d with diesel engines and G400D Adventure, a customised car for India. Ever since we announced even that is selling out,” said Iyer.
