Maruti Suzuki on Thursday unveiled two new products —Jimny and Fronx — in India in a bid to secure a top position in the sports utility vehicle segment and regain a 50 per cent market share in the country’s passenger vehicles market. The Jimny is a 5-door SUV, while the Fronx is a compact SUV.

With semiconductor shortage issues gradually tapering off, the company expects supply of its models, specially SUVs that have large pending orders, to get better in the ongoing quarter.

Jupiter Electric

Jupiter Electric Mobility, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons, on Thursday announced the launch of two commercial electric vehicles at the Auto Expo 2023.

The company had entered into a strategic alliance with North American firm GreenPower Motor Company, which specialises in commercial electric vehicles in passenger transportation and freight transportation segments. It has also entered into a partnership with Log 9 Materials for EV batteries and Xavion Mobility for vehicle design and development.

Vivek Lohia, managing director of Jupiter Wagons, told The Telegraph that the company initially plans to bring in 2.2 tonnes and 7 tonnes (gross vehicle weight) electric commercial vehicles and then explore opportunities to expand in the other segments. The vehicles would be available in the market from September onwards.

“Today with the launch of JEM TEZ and EV STAR CC we are entering a new era at the Jupiter group,” said Lohia.

“Right now the focus is on last mile and middle mile. That is where we believe the maximum commercial electric vehicle penetration is going to happen.”
