The Maruti Suzuki Alto has become the highest selling car in the industry having sold 45 lakh plus units cumulatively at a time when hatchback sales in the industry are at its lowest.
Once ranked as the biggest selling category, the compact segment’s contribution has dropped to 31 per cent of the industry volumes. The projection for the year for hatchback sales stands at 30.5 per cent of the total volume.
For Maruti, the hatches’ contribution will be less than 50 per cent, said senior executive officer Shashank Srivastava, while speaking to the press on the monthly sales brief earlier.
Celebrating the Alto’s sales milestone, Srivastava said: “Over the past two decades, brand Alto has established a strong emotional connect with our customers. Achieving the 45 lakh customer milestone is a testimony to the unwavering support and trust that our customers have placed in us. It’s a milestone which no other car brand has been able to achieve till date.”
He further added, “The Alto has consistently set new benchmarks in the auto industry.”
