Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has reached a key milestone of achieving 20 million passenger vehicle cumulative sales in India. No other car maker in India has crossed this landmark so far.
The company accomplished this in 37 years since it first started selling its cars in India in December 1983.
While the company reached the milestone of 10 million vehicles in 29 years, the next 10 million cars were sold in eight years.
MSIL managing director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawasaid: “We are overwhelmed with this new record. Achieving this milestone is a great accomplishment for Maruti Suzuki as well as our suppliers and dealer partners. We are thankful for the immense trust placed on us by customers, the long lasting partnerships with our stakeholders as well as the support of the government of India.”
The MD also said the company will be focussing on bringing global technologies and emphasising on safety and superior quality.
Talking of future mobility, a company spokesperson said: “The company, along with its parent Suzuki Motor Corporation, plans to introduce a small electric vehicle for the Indian market. At present, it is road testing 50 EV prototypes across the country to check their real-life performance in multiple terrains and varied climatic conditions.”
