Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that it is ramping up production capacity for its SUVs to 49,000 units per month from 29,000 units per month by the fourth quarter of FY2024. The company will ramp up output in a phased manner.

While the existing capacity in the quarter stood at 29,000 units per month, by Q4FY23, it will be ramped up to 39,000 units, and by Q4FY24 to 49,000 units. This was stated by Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, auto and farm sectors, while announcing the company’s Q2FY23 results.

“We are ramping up capacity to cater to continued robust demand for new launches, clear existing bookings, reduce the waiting period for the new launches, to cater to increased exports as also gearing up for production of electric vehicles (EV)s,” said Jejurikar.

Giving the break-up of the capacity expansion, Jejurikar said that the capacity of the Thar family of SUVs will increase from 4,000 per month to 6,000 per month. The XUV300 and XUV400 capacities will increase from 5,000 units to 7,500units in Q4FY23 and 9500 units in Q3FY24.

The XUV700, some variants of which have waiting periods stretching to 18 months, will have a capacity expansion from 6,000 units per month to 10,000 units per month byQ3FY24. The Scorpio-N capacity will increase from 6,000 to 10,000 units per month by Q4FY24. The targeted increase in manufacturing capacity is due to continued robust demand for existing SUVs and upcoming new launches such as the five-door Thar and the XUV400EV, and it will also crucially help the company in clearing existing bookings for its SUVs.
