Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Friday said that a US court has allowed its subsidiary to keep producing and selling the post-2020 version of its off-road vehicle Roxor in the American market.
The homegrown auto major said in a regulatory filing that the Eastern District Court of Michigan on July 19, “issued its opinion and order on Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s (FCA) renewed motion to enjoin the post-2020 Roxor and based on its analysis declined to apply the safe distance rule to this case as sought by FCA’’. Accordingly, FCA’s motion to enjoin the post-2020 Roxor was denied, it added.
M&M pointed out that following the ruling, Mahindra Automotive North America, a subsidiary of the company, continues to have no restraints on its ability to produce, sell and distribute the post-2020 Roxor in the US.
Roxor was launched on March 2, 2018, to be sold in the US and Canada.
Soon after, FCA lodged a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC), alleging that it is a copy of the Willys Jeep and design elements of Mahindra’s product infringed some key design elements of Jeep.
M&M said the vehicle that was the subject of the action was produced in 2018 and 2019 and is no longer in production. The Roxor design, it added, was refreshed for the 2020 model year and further design changes are in the works as part of the normal design cycle.
The positive announcement failed to move the M&M scrip and its share closed with losses at Rs 1,522.55, a drop of 1.43 per cent on the BSE.
