Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Monday revved up its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) segment when it unveiled its new state-of-the-art ‘INGLO EV platform’ and five e-SUVs under two EV brands with a bid to corner more share of the country’s EV market.

The leading SUV maker also inaugurated a new design centre of excellence-Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E), which will serve as the conceptual hotbed for its portfolio of EV products.

The homegrown auto maker also launched a new electric-only brand-BE in the UK which will supplement the iconic brand XUV. M&M said the XUV brand would host a range of products that will build upon its legacy while embracing the future.

The focus here will be on a sophisticated futuristic design, pulsating performance and dynamic innovation. The BE brand will target customers who want to define their life’s journey in their own way while making a difference.

A statement from M&M said that it will be a brand that will “let customers be who they want to be’’.

These brands will initially be represented through five e-SUVs — the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09.

The first four are to be launched between 2024 and 2026. According to M&M, the INGLO platform will encapsulate progressive battery technology, platform architecture, and human-machine interface.

While INGLO will underpin all the Mahindra EVs going forward, the platform is expected to pack intuitive, intelligent and immersive innovations that will serve as the backbone of its EV architecture.

M&M further said that INGLO will also deliver a multi-sensorial driving experience with a futuristic, augmented reality-enabled heads-up display, edge-to-edge screen, 5G network capability and overthe-air updates that will keep the EVs as good as new.

“We are proud and delighted to showcase our Born Electric vision. It provides a strategic direction that is in line with our core philosophy of ‘Rise’ – to be an organisation that will be counted among the best in the world and at the same time rise for our planet to fight against climate change.

“Mahindra will offer customers future-ready technology, head-turning design, world-class products and the benefits of global partnerships. By 2027, we expect that a quarter of the SUVs we sell will be electric,” Anish Shah, managing director & CEO, Mahindra Group, said on the occasion.

In bringing a new platform, M&M is thus taking the likes of Tata Motors which has carved up an impressive space in India’s EV segment.
