Energy Aspects, a London-based independent energy research firm, plans to triple headcount in Calcutta, encouraged by the talent pool available in the city.
Co-founded by Amrita Sen, who was born and raised in the city, the company has moved into a new leased office space spread over 4,500 square feet with 20 people. With eight offices worldwide, EA comes out with research and analysis for clients that are both producers and consumers of oil.
“About 20 per cent of all our hires in the last one year are in Calcutta. We still have a number of positions open here. We may easily double or even triple the headcount in the next one year,” said Sen.
Sen came down to the city as the company was moving into a new office, which was inaugurated by Yemi Odanye, deputy head of mission at the British Deputy High Commission in Calcutta. The company has over 250 people globally and it is in a growth phase. Perched between Singapore and London, the Calcutta office is expected to support the teams based in these locations.
The research firm, set up about 12 years back, sees a lot of opportunities in the Indian market as clients are looking for options in hydrogen and wind power as part of their decarbonisation journey.
However, Sen, who worked with Barclays Capital before setting up her own firm with two others, is not ready to write an epitaph for oil as yet, as she predicted it is going to co-exist with other sources of energy going forward.
