Lamborghini is planning to hybridise all its models by 2024. The first Lamborghini plug-in hybrid will be the Aventador with a new V12 engine that will come to India in 2023.
“This will be followed by the V10 and V8 engines,” said Sharad Agarwal, head, Lamborghini India in an interview with The Telegraph.
After the Aventador, the Urus will get a hybrid powertrain followed by the Huracan.
Globally, Lamborghini plans to go fully electric in the second half of the decade.
“We are taking our time to go electric,” said Agarwal. “We do not want to be the first but we do want to be the best.”
“The technology for Electric Vehicles (EVs) is still developing. We are looking for the right technology that will deliver the same performance as our naturally aspirated gasoline engines. Our customers will expect us to deliver on the performance front,” said Agarwal.
When asked if Lamborghini would use lithium-ion batteries or looking at other energy sources, Agarwal said the company had used super capacitors in some of their limited edition cars like the Sian.
Agarwal said: “We used them in Sian. How we do the future hybrids or EVs is not yet known.”
Super capacitors, like batteries, store energy. However, they charge and release energy much faster than batteries. And are lighter than lithium ion batteries. Meanwhile, the company delivered the 200th Urus in India.
Honda bike exports
Exports of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India have surpassed the pre-pandemic levels. The two-wheeler company exported 3.32 lakh units in FY 21-22 compared with 2.09 lakh units in FY 2020-21. In pre-pandemic FY 2019-20, the company exported 3.26 units.
