Labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya has convened a meeting on jobs data with officials from 20 ministries with the aim of developing a data system of job demand and supply disaggregated across sectors.
Growing unemployment may have significantly impacted the Modi-led BJP government’s performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
The budget 2024-25 has introduced measures to stimulate industry and create job opportunities for youth.
However, the country lacks reliable data on employment figures and sectoral distribution of those employed.
The meeting will involve officials from the ministries of agriculture, coal, corporate affairs, statistics, skill development and textiles.
This initiative is aimed at formalising a system for capturing employment data, which will help create inter-linkages between job demand and supply across the nation.
Officials indicate that this strategic initiative is intended to systematically capture and analyse employment data, providing valuable insights into the job market.
By establishing a comprehensive framework that connects job demand and supply nationwide, the government aims to equip the youth with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in an evolving economy.
Despite the numerous schemes, programs, and projects by both central and state governments aimed at generating employment, there is currently no integrated system to obtain a holistic view of emerging trends and challenges in job creation.
