Kia India eyes 15 per cent market share in SUV segment with the new Sonet

The company will announce the price and start deliveries of the new Sonet in January

Kia India is looking to garner a 15 per cent market share in the highly competitive compact SUV segment with the new Sonet showcased on Thursday.

The company will announce the price and start deliveries of the new Sonet in January.

Tae-Jin Park, managing director and CEO of Kia India, said, “Sonet holds a special place in our successful India journey following Seltos.
With the new Sonet, our objective is to secure the leading position in the compact SUV segment.”

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the unveiling, Hardeep Singh Brar, national head of sales and marketing, Kia India, said, “We sold 80,000 units of the Sonet this year. Going forward, we would like to sell 1 lakh units that will translate to 15 per cent segment share.”

Launched in 2020, Sonet sold 3.68 lakh units cumulatively. In 2022, 86,000 units were sold and in 2023, 80,000 units were sold till it was phased out for the upcoming new Sonet.

The company will export 80,000 units of the Sonet, making it the number one SUV to be exported.

The vehicle is exported to 100 countries, including countries in Latin America.

The company will be offering six airbags as standard fitment in the Sonet as also ADAS Level One features.

The company also introduced manual transmission in its diesel powertrain following customer demand from rural areas.

The compact SUV segment is growing at 16 per cent, almost double that of the industry growth of 8-9 per cent.
