A shift towards sustainable mobility is discernible in the country with the retail sales of electric vehicles growing across most categories on an yearly basis for June.
However, on a monthly basis, the performance was mixed, reflecting seasonal and environmental challenges, said the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (Fada), while releasing retail sales data of electric vehicles (EV)s in the country.
The electric passenger vehicle (PV) category saw a slight decline in market share from 2.5 per cent in May to 2.4 per cent in June and experienced a modest yearly decrease of 1.3 per cent.
The electric two-wheeler (2W) segment captured 5.8 per cent of the market share in June, up from 3.5 per cent last year, marking a significant annual growth of 72.49 per cent, although it faced a slight decline on a monthly basis.
Commercial electric vehicles (CV) sales showed progress with their market share rising to 0.7 per cent in June from 0.57 per cent a year ago, reflecting an annual growth of 16.6 per cent.
The electric three-wheeler (3W) segment maintained a stable market share of 55.5 per cent, achieving an annual growth of 8.68 per cent.
The government’s favourable policies towards green technologies are expected to further boost the electric vehicle market.
Fada remains committed to supporting this transition towards sustainable mobility and will continue to promote eco-friendly practices across the auto retail industry, said organisation president Manish Singhania.
Among the players in the passenger EV segment, Tata Motors has registered a 20 per cent yearly decline having sold 4,346 EVs in June 2024 compared with 5,485 EVs in June 2023.
The company registered a monthly decline of 14.5 per cent having sold 5,083 EVs in May this year.
MG Motors grew by 21.12 per cent, yearly,though sales declined 2.2 per cent on a monthly basis.
Mahindra registered a close to 8 per cent growth on a yearly basis but a nearly 21 per cent decline, monthly.
EV maker BYD continued to grow strongly with an yearly growth of 23.7 per cent and a monthly growth of 43.49 per cent.
Among 2-wheelers, Ola witnessed a 107.5 per cent growth yearly though monthly sales declined by 1 per cent.
TVS grew 76.7 per cent YoY and 17 per cent monthly. Bajaj Auto grew 198 per cent on a yearly basis but declined 2.4 per cent monthly. Ather grew 32 per cent, annually.
Electric three-wheeler sales registered a 8.68 per cent growth yearly but declined 4.43 per cent monthly.
Electric commercial vehicles sales grew 16 per cent yearly and declined 7 per cent monthly.
