JSW Steel withdraws application to surrender one of its iron ore mines in Odisha’s Keonjhar

The company had in September submitted a notice to surrender the mining lease of the Jajang iron ore mine, which it had acquired through an auction in 2020

JSW Steel on Thursday said it has withdrawn the application to surrender one of its iron ore mines in Odisha’s Keonjhar.

The company had in September submitted a notice to surrender the mining lease of the Jajang iron ore mine, which it had acquired through an auction in 2020.

“The company upon considering the demand and supply scenario of iron ore in India, has withdrawn its application for the final mine closure Plan submitted on September 1 before the Indian Bureau of Mines,” the company said in a filing to the BSE.

JSW Steel was declared a preferred bidder for Jajang iron ore block in 2020. It is one of the four iron ore mining leases the company has in Odisha. The block holds an estimated reserves of 39 million tonnes.

Keni Port

JSW Infrastructure has received a letter of award to develop an all-weather, deep-water, greenfield port at Keni Port in Karnataka on a public private partnership basis for Rs 4,119 crore.

The proposed Keni Port would have modern environment-friendly mechanised facilities for handling cape-size vessels.
