Jio will start beta trials of its 5G services in four cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi and Calcutta, from Dussehra on October 5.
The telco on Tuesday said as its ‘True-5G network’ is getting ready in these metros, invited customers can avail of its welcome offer.
They can not only experience the super-fast service but also provide service and user-experience feedback. These customers will get unlimited 5G data with over 1 Gbps speeds.
Jio added that the beta trial service for other cities will be announced progressively as cities keep getting ready. It pointed out that users will continue to avail of this beta trial until the network coverage of a city is substantially complete to provide the best coverage and user experience to every customer. Customers will only pay for their existing 4G plan and will not be charged an additional amount for 5G data during the trial.
The invited users will be automatically upgraded to the Jio 5G service without needing to change their existing Jio SIM or 5G handset.
‘Catalytic event’
The launch of 5G services in India will be a “catalytic event” in terms of scaling up the technology and enabling its proliferation in other developing economies across Latin America, South east Asia and West Asia, chipset major Qualcomm said on Tuesday.
Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon said the launch of 5G technology in India will also help bring 5G devices across all price points.
“When we look at the opportunities with 5G development in India, I see multiple... They can all happen at the same time. The India scale will bring in 5G technology into every single device at different price points.”
