Ahead of the Union budget, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a meeting with top industrialists, including Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani, to discuss ways to revive the economy and create jobs.
The meeting at the PMO was attended by Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal, Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra and Tata group chairman N. Chandrasekaran. Adani Group head Gautam Adani, TVS chairman Venu Srinivasan, Vedanta chief Anil Agarwal and L&T chairman A.M. Naik were also present.
The over two-hour meeting discussed the current economic scenario and measures needed to boost growth, consumption and employment.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget on February 1.
Modi has had a series of discussions with representatives of various industries in the last couple of weeks to seek suggestions on growth.
Meanwhile, allaying fears that the government is against India Inc, Modi at a separate event on Monday said some people were spreading false propaganda by portraying actions against the dishonest and corrupt as strictness by enforcement agencies.
At the centenary celebrations of Kirloskar Brothers, Modi said, “Some people put their energy to create an image that the government is walking after businessmen with stick in its hand. It is a false propaganda that action against some corrupt is being portrayed as strictness by Indian (enforcement) agencies.”
