HFCL and Sterlite Technologies (STL) are involved in a dispute with the latter alleging that HFCL is making a type of optical fibre cable on which it has a patent.
HFCL has, however, rejected this claim, calling it baseless.
On Thursday, STL had disclosed that it has secured an ex-parte ad-interim injunction against HFCL in a patent infringement litigation filed in the Delhi High Court.
On Saturday, HFCL, while responding to the infringement claims made by STL, said the claim is based on misleading information given by STL for registration of the impugned patent. The company added that it has urged the Delhi High Court to vacate the ex-parte interim restrain order.
“The company says that the product in question is being manufactured and used globally by a multitude of corporations for more than last 15 years and patent claims made by STL have no veracity, whatsoever. In fact, STL’s application on a similar patent was rejected by the European Union,’’ HFCL said.
HFCL has been manufacturing the multi-tube micro cable since 2014,’’ HFCL said. “HFCL has the highest-standards of corporate governance & integrity and adherence to the law. The company says that the STL’s claim holds no-merit and it has more than strong defense to present the same in the court to vacate the ex-parte interim restrain order. We have not only prayed for the vacation of the said ex-parte interim restrain order in court but also for rejecting the STL’s infringement claims. We will also protect our interest from any such future claims arising out of misleading information’’, the HFCL spokesperson said.
STL, on the other hand, has claimed that the multitube micro cable technology is a part of its optical networking solutions and that the product was researched and developed in-house and has been integral to many large scale digital networks built by the company’s diverse customer base.
