The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by N. Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Motors. State ministers, public representatives, senior bureaucrats, government officials, and senior representatives of the Tata group were present.

Tata Motors has said the production at the facility will begin in a phased manner and it would reach an annual capacity of 2.50 lakh units over the next five to seven years.

The plant is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. It will also be guided by principles of sustainability and use 100 per cent renewable energy to run operations.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Stalin said the Tata group has a deep, historic relationship with the state and that many of its manufacturing plants successfully operate in the state for the past several years.

“We welcome Tata Motors for setting up its newest manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet… We are delighted with the presence of Chandrasekaran in this event. Hailing from Namakkal district and leading a globally renowned company, he is a pride for the state,” Stalin said.

“We are pleased to make Panapakkam as the home of our next generation of cars and SUVs, including electric and luxury vehicles.

“Tamil Nadu is a leading industrial state with progressive policies and an established automotive hub with qualified and talented workforce. Several Tata group companies have been operating from Tamil Nadu, and now intend to build our advanced vehicle manufacturing plant here using cutting-edge manufacturing technology,’’ Chandrasekaran said.
