Ford Motor Company, after exiting the Indian market in September 2021, is set to resume operations at its Chennai plant for the export of vehicles.
The company’s leadership team was in talks with the Tamil Nadu government for some time and the state’s chief minister had reportedly met Ford officials during his visit to the US.
The company submitted a Letter of Intent to the Tamil Nadu government confirming its intention to utilise the Chennai plant to manufacture for export
“We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Tamil Nadu Government as we explored different options for the Chennai plant,” said Kay Hart, president, Ford International Markets Group. “This step aims to underscore our ongoing commitment to India as we intend to leverage the manufacturing expertise available in Tamil Nadu to serve new global markets.”
The company has not specified which products it will be manufacturing at its plant.
