Six survive as passenger plane with 110 on board crashes in Kazakhstan on Christmas

Russian news agencies say the plane was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines and had been flying from Baku to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya, but had been rerouted due to fog in Grozny

A passenger plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, Russian news agencies reported on Wednesday, citing Kazakhstan's Emergencies Ministry.

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny, the news agencies said.

The Central Asian country's Emergencies Ministry said emergency services were trying to put out a fire at the crash site.
