Coronavirus outbreak: Isuzu delays BS-VI launch

Similarly, all vehicles due for maintenance during the same period can get the service the same till the end of May

Japanese utility vehicle manufacturer Isuzu on Monday said it has pushed the launch of its BS-VI compliant vehicles to the later part of the second quarter of 2020-21 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The company will announce a firmer date closer to the time of the launch.

“We had to realign our plan to introduce our portfolio of BS-VI vehicles, the deadline for which was April 1, because of the current prevailing situation,” said a company spokesperson.

The Supreme Court had earlier extended the deadline for the introduction of BS-VI vehicles by 10 days after the lockdown, enabling closed dealerships to clear their BS-IV inventories.

Meanwhile, Isuzu is also extending the warranty of all vehicles that were set to expire between March 15 and April 15, 2020, till May-end. Other car makers such as Maruti, Mahindra and TVS Motors have also extended their warranties and free services for customers whose warranties ended during the lockdown period.

Similarly, all vehicles due for maintenance during the same period can get the service the same till the end of May.

Isuzu sells a pick-up, the D-MAX V-Cross, and a premium seven-seater SUV, the Isuzu MU-X, in the passenger vehicle segment. In the commercial segment, it sells variants of the D-MAX pick-ups — S-CAB and Regular Cab.

Meanwhile, other car makers such as Maruti, Mahindra and TVS Motors have also extending warranties and free services for their customers whose warranties ended during the lockdown period. Toyota has announced a support package to support and protect the interest of dealers.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has extended warranty and service periods of customer vehicles.

In a release the company stated: “For customer vehicles whose free service, warranty and extended warranty are scheduled to end in the period from March 15, 2020 to Aprl 30, 2020 are now being extended to June 30, 2020.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced a dealer support package titled ‘Covid Package’ for its associates in order to support and protect their interests. “The primary objective is to ensure liquidity package to well sustain the business during the lockdown thus protecting dealer partners for approximately 35 to 70 days based on individual leader overheads by giving cash flow support that will help them afloat during such perilous times,” said a company spokesperson.

TVS Motors has extended free service till June 2020. For vehicles where warranty is expiring between March 1 and April 30, 2020, the company is extending till June 30. Maintenance service is also extended till June. SIUV maker Mahindra too has extended warranty and service and is urging its customers to engage with the company digitally, over its twitter handle and its digital platform ‘With you hamesha”. Tata Motors too extends warranty till July 31.
