City-based Titagarh Wagons on Monday reported that the operations of its Italian subsidiary — Titagarh Firema SpA — have been affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus in the European nation.

At a board meeting of the subsidiary, the chief executive officer of TFA has been authorised to discuss with the employees and workers’ union in line with the government advisory to deal with Covid-19 and consider temporarily suspending operations, initially for a period of 15 days.

In a stock exchange filing, the company said the CEO has been directed to closely monitor the situation and take steps to ensure that operations are restored at the earliest.

“In view of the force majeure conditions, the financial impact of the above is not ascertainable at this stage. However, the government of Italy is contemplating evolving a system to support the entities impacted by such conditions,” company secretary Dinesh Arya said in the filing.

The Italian subsidiary has lowered its operational losses in the nine months of 2019-20 to Rs 8.6 crore from Rs 17.3 crore in the year-ago period.
