CESC appoints Brajesh Singh and Vineet Sikka as MD of generation and distribution

The notice to the stock exchange introduced Singh as a mechanical engineer from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and an M. Tech in power generation technology from IIT Delhi.

CESC Ltd, which supplies electricity in Calcutta and its adjoining areas, announced a major transition in executive leadership, bringing in two new faces to lead the power generation and distribution businesses.

The company, the flagship of the RPSG Group, appointed Brajesh Singh and Vineet Sikka as managing director of generation and distribution, respectively, for five years with effect from May 28, subject to the approvals of shareholders. They will come in place of Rabi Chowdhury and Debasish Banerjee whose terms are going to end on May 27 after a stint of six years.

Chowdhury, a veteran of CESC, and Banerjee were MDs for generation and distribution, respectively.

On May 9, the company informed the bourses of the appointment of Singh and Sikka as president of generation and distribution, respectively. Two weeks later, the board elevated them as MDs.

The notice to the stock exchange introduced Singh as a mechanical engineer from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and an M. Tech in power generation technology from IIT Delhi. He has 37 years of experience in the sector and had worked with NTPC and Tata Power.

Sikka, an electrical engineer from NIT Kurukshetra, has 34 years of experience. He has worked with BSES Rajdhani Power, ABB India and Siemens India.

The transition was announced at a time CESC has announced expansion in renewable power generation, aiming to develop up to 3,000 mega watt capacity from this solar, wind among others. Moreover, it also plans to set up green hydrogen plants.

Meanwhile, CESC reported a 6.74 per cent decline in profit in Q4FY24 to 415 crore from 445 crore a year ago. Revenues increased 9.2 per cent to 3,387 crore from 3,102 crore in Q4FY23.
