Budget carrier IndiGo on Friday reported a net profit of Rs 188.9 crore for the three months ended September against a net loss of Rs 1,583.33 crore in the same period of the previous year.
InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, remained in the black for four straight quarters, boosted by higher traffic and increased capacity.
The July-September quarter is usually weak for Indian carriers with fewer flyers and lower fares, according to analysts. Still, IndiGo has benefited from troubles at smaller rivals Go First and SpiceJet.
IndiGo flew 23.3 million passengers, 33 per cent higher than a year earlier and marginally lower than the previous quarter, data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation showed.
In the second quarter of the current fiscal, IndiGo’s total income jumped 20.6 per cent to Rs 15,502.9 crore. In the same period a year ago, the total income stood at Rs 12,852.3 crore.
