Junior doctors participate in the ‘Yatra for Justice’ from Sodepur on Saturday to demand justice for their colleague who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College on August 9, and a total clean-up of the state healthcare system.
The rally concludes at Esplanade at around 9:30 pm, where the junior doctors have been on hunger strike for over 324 hours.
The doctors want the government to take responsibility and improve safety measures in hospitals across the state.
Despite multiple discussions with senior officials, the doctors feel the government has not taken their demands seriously.
The Indian Medical Association has shown nationwide support for the protest, with junior doctors across India fasting in solidarity.
Four of the protesting doctors have already been shifted to CCU’s as their health continues to decline during the hunger strike.
The ‘Yatra for Justice’ rally is part of the doctors' efforts to press for their demands.
The IMA Medical Students Network is also backing the junior doctors’ protest, adding weight to their call for hospital safety.
The protestors have put forward 10 demands to ensure the safety of doctors and healthcare workers in West Bengal’s hospitals.
The rally and hunger strike showcase the medical community’s determination to fight for justice and secure better working conditions.
