Bosch, the German technology behemoth celebrating 100 years in India, is developing tractor engines that conform to TREM V emission norms, transitioning from in-line engines to common rail systems.

Bosch India managing director Saumitra Bhattacharya announced the upgrade on the sidelines of the inauguration of its new smart and green campus christened Spark. NXT at Adugodi in Bangalore on Thursday.

The inauguration of the campus was attended by Filiz Albrecht, member of the board of management and director of industrial relations at Robert Bosch GmbH. Albrecht will assume responsibility of the Indian operations from July 1, said Bhattacharya.

Albrecht said: “India is of utmost importance to us. The country is doing a lot in terms of infrastructure development, people’s education. We at Bosch are investing 250 million euros in different areas, including digitisation and clean technologies.”

The Centre has deferred the deadline for imposition of TREM V norms to October 2022 on account of the chip shortage and geopolitical crisis . Bosch is also developing cleaner diesel and hydrogen-based technologies for heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) by 2030.

“We did a transition from BS-IV to BS-VI in three years while Europe did it in five. We are focussing on developing not just electrified mobility but also hydrogen and fuel cell technology.”

The focus on internal combustion engines will remain, he said.
