BMW expects its entry-level SUV X1 to expand its overall market share as the buyers of the vehicle move on to buy more premium models from the company, BMW India president Vikram Pawah said.
While talking to The Telegraph over the phone on the launch of an upgraded X1, Pawah said: “Customers buying the X1, inevitably migrate to more premium vehicles from our portfolio.”
The X1 contributed 18 per cent to its national sales in 2022 having sold 1,800 units last year.
“The X1 is a very significant vehicle for us as it bringsmore and more people into theBMW fold. About 57 per centof our X1 customers migrateto premium vehicles. The westand the south are the majormarkets. The earlier modelsold 22,000 units,” said Pawah.
With the new X1, the German company is looking toexpand its sales in the sportsactivity segment (SAV). TheBMW group has plans tolaunch 16 vehicles and twobikes in 2023.
