Bengal pitches for investment ahead of state’s flagship industrial summit

The meet witnesses participation of over 200 members, including 50 one on one meetings

West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, the nodal agency for the state’s industrial development and promotion, has pitched Bengal’s potential in New Delhi as part of a CII organised meeting ahead of the state’s flagship industrial summit —Bengal Global Business Summit — scheduled in April.

Rajiva Sinha, chairman, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, led a delegation, including government officials Manish Jain, principal secretary, department of higher education, Barun Ray, principal secretary, department of labour.

Sanjiv Paul, chairman, CII Eastern Region, Sanjay Budhia, co-chairman, CII national committee on Exim, Prashant Sharma, chairman CII West Bengal State Council, Sucharita Basu, vice-chairman CII West Bengal State Council and Mehul Mohanka, co-chairman, CII National Mining Committee were part of the delegation.

The investor meet witnessed participation of over 200 members, including 50 one on one meetings. Representatives from Philips Electronics, Pepsico, Microsoft, Grasim, Mastercard, Pernod Ricard, Avaada Group, JK Paper, Dr Lal Pathlabs Diagnostics were part of the meeting.

At the meeting, Sinha pointed out that Bengal has the potential to serve as a gateway to the East and North- East. It boasts of premier institutions such as the IIT and IIMs and has the advantage of two international airports within its precincts and the major game changer would be the establishment of the deep-sea port.

Sinha further compliances have been reduced and business laws have been worked upon and simplified. During the last decade the number of manhours lost by businesses owing to strikes and lock outs has been reduced to almost nil. Besides, the government is geared towards providing training and upskilling and bears the entire cost of training the workers.

CII said that it is willing to set up offices of its Centres of Excellence in the state in areas such as green energy solutions, electric vehicles, food and agriculture, logistics, among others and partner with the state government in its journey towards its transformation to a business friendly state.
