The Mamata Banerjee-government is going to hold the 7th edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit on November 21-23, months ahead of the general election in the country.

The dates were announced for the investment jamboree on Thursday at a meeting of the West Bengal Industrial Promotion Board which was chaired by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The last edition of the BGBS took place in April of 2022 where the government claimed to have attracted investment proposal worth Rs 3.42 lakh crore.

In the previous five chapters, a total of Rs 12.35 lakh crore of investment proposals were received, data from a government website showed.

Ahead of the meeting, the state plans to hold road shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Jaipur.

Banerjee distributed the responsibility of organising the interaction with local industries of these cities among different chambers of commerce.

The Delhi meeting will also interact with the ambassadors of various countries. Former state finance minister Amit Mitra will conduct the meet virtually.

The investment promotion board meeting was attended by industrialists from Bengal and various chambers of commerce and trade bodies, senior bureaucrats led by chief secretary H.K. Dwivedi, industry secretary Vandana Yadav, tourism secretary Nandini Chakravorty among others.

Sanjay Budhia, managing director of Patton India, who participated in the meeting, said, “All stakeholders, chambers, industry associations have been asked to work handin-hand with the state government to showcase various initiatives and invite companies from India and abroad to participate in the BGBS.”

CM Banerjee also announced that a memorandum of understanding to build a World Trade Centre would be inked on March 21.
