The Bengal government has allotted land to Jubilant Foodworks, which operates popular fast food chains Dominos’ Pizza and Dunkin Donuts in India.
The order for the 12.72 acre plot allotment was issued to Amardeep Singh Aluwalia, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Jubilant, on Monday, paving the way for the company’s new manufacturing base.
The company, which has a market capitalisation of close to Rs 40,000 crore, will make spices, sauces, condiments and confectioneries in this food processing unit.
A memorandum for understanding for the venture was signed during the Bengal Global Business Summit 2022 in April.
Following this, the state cabinet had approved the land allotment to Jubilant, which clocked a turnover of Rs 4,331crore in the last fiscal and a profit of Rs 437.52 crore.
Investment in the unit, which is expected to commence operations in this financial year, would be around Rs 100 crore.
The unit is likely to generate direct and indirect employment for more than1,300 people in the state.
Jubilant’s factory will come up at Phase-II of Rishi Bankim Shilpa Udyan, Naihati.
IIM meet on direct taxes
The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, and the Direct Taxes Professionals Association (DTPA), Calcutta, will jointly organise a refresher programme on direct taxes in Shillong.
Advocate Narayan Jain said about 50 tax professionals are expected to participate in the proposed three-day workshop.
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, will be invited to the workshop.
Shishir Bajoria, chairman of IIM, Shillong, admired the role of DTPA in ensuring tax compliance.
He was speaking at DTPA’s 40th year celebrations on Sunday.
DTPA president K.K. Jain and coordinator R.D. Kakra said participants will discuss the desired modifications in the IT Act.
