The government’s Budget announcement on battery swapping has encouraged many electric vehicle start-ups to expand their battery stations network and offer swappable batteries in their EVs apart from fixed batteries. Swappable batteries are suitable for two-wheeler or three-wheelers.

Bounce, a start-up based in Bangalore, makes electric two-wheelers and is also in the shared mobility business with dockless bikes. It will soon offer their existing swapping network they have installed for their mobility business to other equipment makers, CFO and co-founder of Bounce Anil Girirajan told The Telegraph.

Bounce has a swappable battery network in Bangalore and Vijaywada in 200 plus locations. “All our batteries and swap stations are IoT enabled, we will be able to measure the charge that the consumer has consumed and charge him for the net charge. The user pays only for whatever he used,” he added.

Etrio, another start-up in the EV commercial vehicle space, is also thinking of having swappable batteries in its three-wheelers apart from fast charging batteries.

“We have fixed, fast charging batteries for our three-wheelers but we are looking at swappable batteries too,” said Deepak MV, CEO and co-founder of Etrio.

Meanwhile, EV charging stations have expanded by two-and-a-half times across nine mega cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, in the last four months, the power ministry said on Saturday.
