The automobile industry reported 1.9 per cent growth wholesales in June at 3,27,700 units compared with 3,21,600 units in the same month last year.

Retail sales were similar to wholesale figures and stood at 3,29,000 units against 3,01,000 units last year, an increase of 9.3 per cent.

For the first quarter of FY24, the industry sales were a little under one million and stood at 9,94,000 units against 9,10,400 last year, posting a growth of 9.2 per cent.

In the first six months (H1) of the calendar year 2023 (January to June), passenger vehicle sales crossed the two million mark to stand at 20,12,000 units. Last year, the sales in the first six months were at 18,31,000 units posting a growth of 10 per cent.

The stock in the industry at the beginning of June was at 2,61,000 units which remained the same on July 1, 2023, as wholesale and retail sales were roughly similar in June. That roughly translates to 24 days of stock in the network.

For Maruti Suzuki, passenger vehicle sales in June 2023 stood at 1,33,000 units compared with 1,22,000 units, posting a growth of 8.4 per cent which is higher than the industry growth.Overall Maruti’s sales including commercial vehicles stood at 1,36,000 units against 1,25,700 units last year a growth of 8.2 per cent.

Maruti’s market share increased 2.4 per cent in June to 41 per cent. Retail sales in June were at 1,37,000 units compared with 1,23,000 last year June posting a growth of around 12 per cent.

In the first quarter of FY24, Maruti’s sales were 4,22,000 units against 3,79,900 units in Q1 FY23 posting a growth of 11.1 per cent. In the quarter, Maruti’s market share went up 1.1 per cent at 42 per cent against 40.5 per cent in Q1 last year.

In the first six months of 2023, Maruti’s sales stood at 8,61,000 units against 7,87,000 units in the corresponding period a year ago.

The top three best-sellers were the Wagon R, Swift and Baleno with Alto, Brezza and Grand Vitara among the top 10, said Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer of Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd registered total sales of 65,601 units in June 2023 including domestic sales of 50,001 units and export of 15,600 units. The company posted a growth of 5.21 per cent over last year’s June sales of 62,351 units.

Tata Motors passenger vehicles June sales this year were at 47,359 (including EVs) units compared with 45,305 units in the same month last year posting a growth of 5 per cent.In Q1 FY24, the company posted 1,40,450 units sales compared with 1,30,327 units sales in the same quarter last financial year posting a growth of 8 per cent quarter-on-quarter.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported sales of 19,608 units in June 2023, an increase of 19 per cent over the same period last year, when the company sold 16,512 units. While overall domestic sales stood at 18,237 units, exports accounted for 1,371 units in the month of June 2023.

From January to June in 2023, Toyota sold 1,02,371 units, surpassing the figures of 75,017 units sold in the same period last year thus resulting in a growth of 36 per cent.

MG Motor's sales stood at 5,125 units in June, higher than the retails sales of 4,504 units a year ago.
