Narayan Jain, national president of AIFTP, and S.M. Surana, chairman of the direct tax representation committee, pointed to several issues, including slow functioning of the income tax portal, difficulty in downloading Form 26AS, AIS (annual information statement), TIS (taxpayer information summary) for verification.

Further, payment of self-assessment tax and downloading of challan also takes time. These are in addition to the natural calamities that have affected taxpayers in various parts of the country.

“The utility has once again changed on 27.7.2024 for ITR 1 to ITR 4. This will require changes in the software which will take a little time,” said the association.

More than 5 crore returns have already been filed for assessment year 2024-25 through the e-filing portal, the IT department has said on X. Infosys, which is the technology partner of the department for operating the e-filing portal, has been instructed to ensure uninterrupted services.

Direct Tax Professionals’ Association on Monday said it will hold its annual conference on August 3, 2024.
