Akasa Air will fly daily direct flights on the Chennai-Mumbai route from next month as it gets ready to start commercial operations in the country later this week. The flights between the Chennai and Mumbai sector will commence from September 15, a company statement said.

As part of its plans to create pan-India network connectivity, Akasa will also add new routes between Ahmedabad and Bangalore from August 23.

“With the first flight scheduled to take off on August 7, we have seen tremendous response for booking from travellers and our first flight got sold out within a day of going live,” Akasa Air co-founder and chief commercial officer Praveen Iyer said.

Akasa Air has an aircraft arriving every fortnight, and this helps it augment its network and progressively add more cities along new sectors, he said.
