After a gap of more than two years, India will start exporting mangoes and pomegranate to the US as part of the trade agreement signed between the two countries relating to agri-products.

On its part, Washington will export alfalfa hay and cherries to India, starting April 2022, the commerce and industry ministry said on Saturday. While exports of mangoes and pomegranate from India to the US will begin in January-February 2022, export of pomegranate arils (the red edible part inside the fruit) will start in April 2022, the ministry added.

The shipments would take place under a new framework agreement signed between the US Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare (DAC&FW) of India.

India did not export mangoes to the US during the previous two and half years as the US phytosanitary inspectors did not visit the country during 2020 and 2021.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying is ready to provide market access for US pork.
